Montego Bay

Montego Bay — was originally a Spanish settlement (from 1510) – calling it “Bahía de Mantega” (because of the large quantities of pigs lard that was exported to other Spanish colonies within the Caribbean and South America) – hence the origin of the “Montego” name of what later became a British settlement.

Nowadays, with its “Hip Strip” booming with shops, restaurants and clubs, championship golf courses on lavish resorts, and legendary Colonial great houses, Montego Bay’s juxtaposition of natural beauty and man-made luxury make it a beloved destination, not to mention a major gateway for incoming tourists (complete with having the country’s largest airport).
